It’s true the trips are strenuous and physically exhausting, but at the end of the journey, you achieve a sense of accomplishment.
In India, there are many routes for long distance bike trips. Some people prefer the bike routes along the highways so that they can travel in well-maintained roads. Others like the trips along the Western Ghats to soak in the beauty of nature. For the more adventurous ones, India has the bike route from Manali to Leh, which is one of the toughest in the world. Here are the dos and don’ts which you should follow whenever you plan for long distance bike ride.
- Choose a Comfortable Bike
The most important thing for any bike trip is having a good comfortable bike for the journey. Every biker is passionate about a certain type of bike, so choose the vehicle according to your preference and the type of journey you are going to undertake. If you opt for a mountain trip go for a powerful bike. The highway trip can be undertaken with the ones offering better mileage. If the bike requires some modification in terms of comfortable seat, guards, better headlights, get them as soon as possible. Always remember it is more important to be safe than looking cool during the tour.
- Carry First aid Kit and Essential Tools and Spares
The first-aid-kit and the spares are very important for the bike tour. There are chances of you getting hurt during the long journey. So band-aid, antiseptic lotion proves to be handy in those cases. The bike may also suffer technical snag during the tour. If you carry necessary tools and spares it may save precious time during the tour.
- Dress Appropriately
It is always a good idea to dress appropriately for the trip. The bike trips are going to be sweaty and dusty so always wear a black t shirt and carry enough number of spares as well. Nothing is more comfortable than black t-shirts during the strenuous bike trip. You can check out some really cool trendy black t-shirts from the portals of Bewakoof, Proline, Allen Solly, etc. The best thing about them is, they do not look dirty after a full day trip. Manage your hair properly with a headband and make generous use of deodorants.
- Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated during the tour is equally important. Invest in a good water bottle from which you can drink water without removing the helmet. When your body is properly hydrated you would feel less strain on the tour. It is also a good idea to add some glucose to your drinking water to provide you with some added energy.
- Keep your Luggage Light
Do not over pack for the tour. Carry only the essential items which are required during the trip. Carrying addition luggage would be difficult to manage and make the journey uncomfortable. While packing, make it a point to use as many disposable items as possible. Pack sachets of shampoos instead of a bottle carry small soaps and toothpaste which would be lighter and you would be able to dispose them off as the tour progresses. Do not carry DSLR camera, instead take a good digicam; they are lighter and easy to use during the road trip. Invest in a good saddle bag which you can harness on your bike’s back seat.
- Take Occasional Breaks
This is the last but one of the most important criteria to make the bike trip successful. The occasional short breaks would keep you energised and motivated during the entire trip.
So, these were few important tips to keep in mind while undertaking a bike trip. The most important factor to remember is, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy every moment of the tour.
